Historic Bed & Breakfast
Taos, New Mexico
WELCOME!
Come relax and mellow out within the 122 year-old adobe walls of our Taos Spanish hacienda - built in 1887 at the northern edge of town by the Rio Pueblo, a sacred river to the Taos Pueblo Indians.
Feel the calming energy of this oasis of Old Taos charm and magic - with a revamped riverfront area and new, lush front lawn - it's usually 10 degrees cooler than in town.
The Laughing Horse Inn is a uniquely special part of the Taos scene. Purchased by 'Spud' Johnson in the late 1920's, it's been an important retreat & gathering place for many artistic & literary people over the years.
Frommer's Guide says you "should not miss" the Laughing Horse B&B. The Rocky Mountain News says (accurately) that it's for people who "have a sense of humor about lodging and life." There's hardly a straight line, and few square or crisp corners in the whole house - it's difficult to do in a place with two-foot-thick adobe walls! Instead of sterile crackerbox-motel rigidness, this historic New Mexico bed & breakfast inn echoes the curved and rounded shapes of Mother Earth.
Our 10 eclectic rooms share three bathrooms, as you experienced travelers have no doubt encountered in European pensiones - and we've also a penthouse suite with private bath. Some of our rooms were even crafted by the Taos hippie carpenters of the early 70's - our newer ivy-lined 'Greenhouse Wing' being a prototype of what are now called 'Earthships'.
Within walking distance of the main Plaza, and many great shops & restaurants for all budgets (as well as the local health-food store) - we're perfectly situated for your ideal Taos visit/vacation. We hope to see you soon...!
